I applied processing on some of the tracks, and utilised LP's Latch/Read automation function in muting plug-ins and channels, and to adjust volume. Producing a dance-track in Multitrack Mix-down. The final track was the Theremin going through the pedals. Mainstage still held Michael's Flute through the stereo-delay, whose tempo and feedback amounts I manipulated while we recorded him in real-time along with the Eurorack. The 4th signal triggered a Korg VolcaBeats.ģ.The notes of the arpeggio were fine-tuned by hand, and further shaped with a MakeNoise 'math' envelope generator. A 3rd signal (from the 4MS Quad Clock) clocked the sample-and-hold of an SSF ultra random analog module, creating arpeggio patterns with the 4MS Atoner. This signal altered the degree input of a MakeNoise 'telharmonic' module to produce the Sitar-like drone. A 2nd clock signal (from the 4MS Quad Clock) drove a Doepfer A-148 sample-and-hold that sampled colored noise from an A-118 noise generator. This became the 1st of our 2 arpeggiated sequences. The A-110 in turn drove an ElbyDesigns Synthacon filter, that was modulated by the MakeNoise Function to control the envelope of that sound. This new clock signal drove a MakeNoise Rene sequencer to control a Doepfer A-110 oscillator. This signal was doubled via the 4MS Quad Clock Distributor (which sent out 4 copies of this new clock signal). The Doepfer A-129 took this source signal and converted it into a clock signal. The 3rd Midi track was an AU kick drum playing a 'four on the floor' pattern as the source signal to trigger the Eurorack. Two tracks of Midi would be replaced by the Arp Odyssey and Prophet-6 playing bass and chords respectively. On our 4th and final day in the improv marathon, I prepared the session with 3 pre-recorded Midi tracks in LP.A midi click track triggered modular synth sequences, and the human players jammed. The 2nd version : utilised multi-tracking, and Mainstage effects in real-time. ![]() This improv session was recorded by another laptop using LP. Other softsynths were played live when desired. Not having both feet firmly on the ground, made 'preserving being in tune' a little awkward. The Morley Wah-Pedal was pumped by my left foot. With several loops going, I could then proceed to the theremin, which had 4 pedals daisy-chained Delay, Flange, Distortion, Wah.A click-track keep us in time and also fed the Eurorack modular synths for the creation of a drone and repeated patterns/sequences.DRUM LOOP had an existing beat brought on to create movement and form.Picking a good moment, I loop-recorded a segment of his performance, while he continued to playing along with the ensemble of loops. Michael played the flute, while I influenced the amount of feedback and tempo in real-time. ECHO FX added an interesting layer of feedback. This was looped, leaving me hands-free for the another activity. A dotted 1/4-note delay was dialed in, creating a bass-line pattern as an alternative that I could evoke. A SYNTH BASS was fed through Space Designer to create an ethereal pad-like sound. We created 2 different improv sessions using similar instrumentation & systems : Mainstage + Modular Synths + Humans. For the musical goal, to generate a meaningful performance, a performance that had structure, and was attention-span-friendly i.e. ![]() It had been quite a number of years since Electric Muse worked on a project, so we decided to meld our technologies (Michael's was modular synth tricks on his Eurorack) with improv as the technical goal. The workspace is a blackbox theatre-like space that can be configured any which way, for even as an improv system. Event changes would be assigned to midi controllers or controllable icons on the MS workspace. It does what other apps may include as features, except IB specializes in the one thing, blending layers. I’m currently using a 6s and Image Blender has always been one of the strongest workhorses in my photo app line up. Then moved up to a 4s and the app stayed very much the same-awesome. I’ve been using the app when I got my first iPod Touch with a camera and it was awesome. Update 2021: This is pretty much the only app I have now that doesn’t charge me premiums or timed subscriptions to use its basic features. I would recommend this app to anyone, it’s a gem and should be part of your app toolbelt if you’re doing any editing on your mobile device. The actual app itself can handle surprisingly large file sizes for an app, it’s taken some big images and chugged along like a champ even on my older iPhone models I’ve had. I’ve created multi-layered compositions with this app by inverting things and flattening one by one, and saving as a PNG to avoid compression. The blending modes leave nothing to be desired (at least for my uses), pretty much anything in that department can be achieved with this app so long as you get creative with your layers. ![]() Thank you to the developers of this app for not doing what so many other of my once-favorite editing apps have done, by switching to a $/week or $/month ‘service.’ This app is valuable and I use it often, even more so now that my tools have become more limited.
